Finally, I am starting to beef up my site. It has been languishing for too long.
I was using http://www.blogger.com before, and I wanted to move the blogs to my site. Much more control, and more personal. After doing a short research, I came upon WordPress and I am really impressed. It has all the features that I need so far although I have not explored enough yet.
Installation
One of the problems I have with my hosting provider, is that I do not have command line access. I thought I will have trouble installing WordPress. But I soon found that I had nothing to worry about. I was able to install the application using Fantastico De Luxe which allows you to install a number of “canned” applications right from the browser. The upside is that you can install applications such as this, while the downside is that you are limited to the list of apps (and versions) supported by your hosting provider. I believe I could have managed to install using a combination of the ftp access, and phpmyadmin access to mysql server. But, I decided to take the easy route . The Fantastico install was done in mintes, and I have my blog ready for me.
Post Install
After installing WordPress, I experimented with some themes. Next, added some of the users who would be allowed to publish on my blog. Finally, I moved one blog across from my blogger site, at least to see how easy it is to do this. It was a breeze, simply cut-paste the content (in Visual mode on both blogger.com, and in my WordPress editor).
Future
I am sure I am going to be tweaking the theme as time permits, to make it my own. Learn how to add pics and videos on the site (I am sure it is easy), and more.
